Mr Jie (Jarvis) Zhuo

Project Role: PhD Student

Project: Next generation agricultural extension: social relations for practice change

About: Jie is a researcher in the field of sociology, currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy at Macquarie University under the supervision of Activity 7 Lead, Dr Nicholas Harrigan. Jie’s research focuses on the critical intersection of inequality, education, and public health, particularly examining the mechanisms linking low education levels to increased COVID-19 mortality. Jie’s expertise lies in social inequality and the social determinants of health, employing advanced statistical methods, including factor analysis and multi-level regression, to clarify complex social phenomena. His work is not limited to health, as he also explores the broader implications of inequality on wellbeing and life satisfaction in various social contexts. In a recent collaborative project, Jie investigated the impact of settlement patterns on economic inequality and life satisfaction, revealing that newer settlements tend to have lower inequality and higher life satisfaction, particularly for low-income households. This work underscores the intricate ways in which social structures and historical contexts shape wellbeing and economic conditions.
